Most of us have probably heard about it, but what really happened on 'Good Friday'?

Standing in the historic grounds of Talley Abbey, this Word for the Week explores one of the most extraordinary passages in the Bible: Gospel of Matthew 27:45-53.

This isn’t just the story of a crucifixion.

Matthew records three shocking events that don’t normally happen at all:

- Darkness at midday
- The Temple curtain torn in two
- Tombs opening up like an earthquake and the dead raised to go for a walk around town

(Yes ... weird isn't it? But that's the point.)

These are not random details - they are interpretive signs that make you sit up and look!

So Matthew answers the deeper question:

👉 What was really going on when Jesus died?

In this episode, we unpack:

- Why the darkness wasn’t natural - but theological
- What the tearing of the Temple veil really means
- How the opening of tombs signals the end of death’s authority
- And why (oh why) a Roman centurion came to the conclusion that Jesus is the Son of God

This is about more than history.

It’s about judgment, access to God, and hope beyond death.

So if you’ve ever wondered:

- Is there real evidence behind the Christian faith?
- Why does Good Friday matter today?
- What do I really think about the person and identity of Jesus?

…this is for you.
