Jesus arrives at Jairus's house to find the professional mourners already there, the experts in death, certain they know exactly what they're looking at.
When He says the child is not dead but sleeping, they laugh Him down.
The Greek word is kategelōn, contemptuous, derisive laughter.
They weren't wrong because they were bad at their job. They were wrong because their expertise had a ceiling, and what was about to happen in that room came from above it.
