People are booking holidays. Departure boards are filling up. Some are even flying to Patmos.
But in Revelation 1, Patmos is not a sun-drenched escape. It is a place of exile.
The Apostle John was sent there because of his faith in Jesus Christ — cut off, sidelined, removed from public ministry. Patmos was meant to silence him. To reduce him. To end his influence.
Instead, it became the setting for the greatest vision of the risen Christ in the New Testament.
“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day…” (Revelation 1:9–10)
Exile did not cancel encounter. Isolation did not equal abandonment. The prison island became holy ground.
Sometimes life feels like Patmos:
A chapter of life you didn’t choose
A place that feels small or unfair
A season of life full of being overlooked or 'parked'
Revelation 1 reminds us: this is not wasteland. God has not run out of ways to meet with you.
Your “Patmos” is not the end of your story. It may be the beginning of a clearer sight of Christ.
