What makes a person truly great?
In Mark 10:43, Jesus says the great one among His followers is the servant, and the first is the servant of all.
TLDR: Jesus does not condemn leadership. He condemns using other people to make yourself look and feel important. In his kingdom, the strongest person carries the most weight for everybody else.
In this Super Short Thought, I reflect on what it means when leaders lord it over people, and why Jesus told his disciples “it won’t be that way amongst you.”
Key takeaways:
- Jesus’ definition of greatness: the great one is the servant (Mark 10:43)
- Leadership is not the problem. Self-promotion at other people’s expense is.
- Picture a village, a home or a church where the strongest carries the most. That is greatness, Jesus style.
