In Revelation 2, the Lord Jesus warns the church in Pergamum about a dangerous spiritual pattern that goes all the way back to the Old Testament figure called Balaam.
Balaam didn’t try to destroy God’s people through open attack.
Instead, he encouraged them to blend in with the culture around them - to keep their beliefs private while allowing their lifestyle to slowly drift into compromise.
Sound familiar?
Today we hear similar messages:
“Believe what you want… just don’t let it affect your choices, your ethics, or the way you live.”
But Jesus warns that slow compromise hollows faith out from the inside.
Christianity isn’t about isolation or strange behaviour—but it is about distinctiveness. Real faith changes how we live, not just what we believe internally.
In this Super Short Thought, we explore what the story of Balaam teaches about cultural pressure, integrity, and following Christ in a world that prefers comfortable compromise ... because if faith is real, it WILL shape our lives.
